About Hotshot Wellness

Hotshot Wellness is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the health and wellness of wildland firefighters. Our mission is to provide essential resources through science communication, personal development, and community support. We are a purpose-driven organization, run by wildland firefighters, committed to fostering resilience and well-being within this demanding profession.

The Role: Purpose and Objective

Knowledge is the foundation of effective action. To advance our mission, we are creating a comprehensive, centralized hub of research and data specifically related to the health, safety, and performance of wildland firefighters.

The Research Assistant will be instrumental in this initiative. This role is responsible for identifying, compiling, and organizing existing research to build an accessible and authoritative resource for firefighters, researchers, and health professionals. Your work will directly contribute to a more informed and resilient wildland fire community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct systematic searches to identify relevant studies, data, and academic papers on topics concerning wildland firefighter health and wellness.

  • Evaluate sources for credibility, relevance, and accuracy.

  • Compile and organize research findings into a logical, categorized structure.

  • Prepare and format documents (primarily PDF) for digital access.

  • Upload and manage content within a designated portal on the Hotshot Wellness website.

  • Maintain the integrity and organization of the research database as it grows.

Qualifications and Experience

We seek an individual who is methodical, disciplined, and aligned with our mission.

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience in academic or professional research, including data collection and compilation.

  • Strong organizational skills with a high degree of attention to detail, particularly in categorizing information.

  • Proficiency with digital tools and platforms, with the ability to learn and operate our website's content management system.

  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

  • A commitment to the mission of supporting the well-being of first responders.

Preferred:

  • Experience or academic background in fields such as exercise science, public health, psychology, or information science.

  • Familiarity with scientific literature databases (e.g., PubMed, Google Scholar).

  • Previous experience in a nonprofit or volunteer capacity.
